MINDSET

Mindsets. The thing that can be changed so easily. With just a single sentence it could change a childs life. Carol Dweck, a Stanford University psychologist came up with the whole idea of mindset. she says “For no matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment," I, personally find this really inspiring. Actually, her, herself is really inspiring. She is inspiring as a person and has founded something very important.

There was a study in which Dr. Dweck found out that whether a person has a fixed or growth mindset, depends on the way you are praised. In this study with Claudia Mueller,400 fifth graders in 12 different New York City schools were examined. She gave them a rather easy puzzle in which half of them gained a praise for their smarts, the other half praised for their efforts.

These students were then asked if they would rather either the easy or hard puzzle.90% of students praised for effort chose the harder set of puzzles for the next test, worked hard to figure out the puzzles, were interested in understanding their mistakes, and on a subsequent test showed an average 30% improvement. Those who werepraised for smarts mostly chose the easier set of puzzles, were easily discouraged, on a subsequent test saw their scores drop by an average of almost 20%.
